Tagit Extension Privacy Policy

At Tagit, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome extension collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

The Tagit extension collects the following information only when you explicitly choose to save a webpage:

• Web page data: Page titles, URLs, and images from pages you choose to save
• User-added tags: Tags you create to organize your saved content
• Screenshots: Automatic screenshots of pages you save (stored temporarily locally and then uploaded to our secure servers)
• Account information: Email address and authentication tokens when you log in

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide the core functionality of saving and organizing web content
• Sync your saved content across your devices
• Authenticate your account and maintain your session
• Improve our service based on usage patterns (anonymized data only)

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in two locations:

• Locally: Temporarily in your browser's extension storage for immediate access
• Cloud: Securely on our servers (Supabase) with industry-standard encryption

We implement the following security measures:

• HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
• Secure authentication via Supabase Auth
• Regular security audits and updates
• Access controls to ensure only you can access your data

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

• With your explicit consent
• To comply with legal obligations (e.g., court orders, subpoenas)
• With service providers (Supabase) under strict data protection agreements
• To protect our rights, property, or safety, or that of our users

5. What We Don't Collect

To protect your privacy, we explicitly do NOT collect:

• Browsing history of pages you don't save
• Content from pages you don't explicitly save
• Tracking data across websites
• Personal information beyond what you provide
• Credit card or payment information (we don't charge for the service)

6. Your Rights and Control

You have complete control over your data:

• Access: View all your saved content through the Tagit web application
• Edit: Modify titles, tags, and other information
• Delete: Remove individual articles or your entire account
• Export: Download your data in standard formats
• Opt-out: Uninstall the extension at any time

7. Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following permissions:

• storage: Store extracted data and screenshots locally in your browser
• activeTab: Access the current tab's content only when you click the extension icon
• scripting: Inject our content script to extract page data when you choose to save
• host_permissions: Communicate with Tagit servers to save and sync your data

8. Cookies and Tracking

We use minimal cookies and storage:

• Authentication tokens to keep you logged in
• Local storage for temporary data before upload
• No third-party tracking cookies
• No analytics or advertising cookies

9. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to individuals under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through:

• Extension update notifications
• Email notifications to registered users
• Updates on our website

Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. International Users

If you are accessing our service from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where our servers are located. By using our service, you consent to this transfer.
