Notes

Notes are for your own words: a thought, a plan, a to-do list, or why an article mattered. There are two kinds, and they do different jobs. This guide covers both.

Notes as items

A note can stand on its own, like a save without a link. It lives in your library next to your articles, and tags work on it exactly as they do on saves.

  1. Open Notes in the sidebar.
  2. Click New note.
  3. Give it a title if you like, write the note, and add tags.
  4. Click Save note.

The note shows up on the Notes page, in your library and under each of its tags. Tag a packing list #trip and it sits next to the articles you saved for the trip, which is the whole point.

Click a note's card to open it again and change it. Delete in the editor moves it to Trash, where it stays for 30 days like any save.

Checklists

Click Add checklist item in the editor, or start a line with [ ] yourself. Each of those lines becomes a checkbox on the card.

Tick items straight from the card, without opening the note. The card counts them for you: "2/5 done". A ticked line is written [x] if you open the editor.

A note on a save

Sometimes the note belongs to an article: "use this for the Q4 deck", "ask Anna about the second chart". Open the article's preview and write in the Your note box under the description. It saves as you type.

These notes are private. Only you see them, even when the article is in a shared collection or a team workspace. Saves with a note get a small pencil before their tags.

Writing a note on something you have not saved yet, like a feed item or a recommendation, saves it to your library first. A note means you want to keep it.

Finding notes

Search covers notes of both kinds. Type a word from a note and the note, or the save it is written on, comes back. On Premium, search by meaning reads notes too, so "the packing list for Japan" finds it even if you called it something else.

Who sees a note

A note belongs to the workspace you write it in, like a save. In your personal workspace it is yours alone. In a team workspace your teammates see it, which makes it a team note.

Notes are never public. You cannot share a note on your profile, and a public tag does not show the notes under it.

Notes in collections

Notes written inside a shared collection belong to the collection, so every member can read them and editors can change them. See Collections.

Limits

Notes are on every plan. Notes as items count toward the free plan's 100 saves; notes on a save do not.
